Are you caring for someone over 65?
Do you need time out to recharge?
Why not take a break…
Residential respite is a temporary, time-limited stay in an aged care facility for someone who requires support.
Residential respite can give yourself and the person you care for a chance to have a break from usual routine and can help you both stay home together in the long term.
Eligibility for entry to high (Nursing Home) or low (Hostel) residential respite is assessed by the Aged Care Assessment Service (ACAS).
An assessment is usually valid for 12 months and there is no charge to have an assessment completed.
With a current assessment, a person may access up to 63 days of residential respite in a financial year.
People who receive residential respite care in an Australian Government subsidised aged care home are asked to pay a daily care fee of $33.41 per day. Some private aged care homes offer residential respite but the daily care fee is usually higher. The daily care fee includes; all meals, washing, personal care needs including assistance with medications and daily activities.
Respite breaks can be divided up to suit the carer, for example, two weeks of residential respite every few months, or maybe a longer period of time if planning a holiday.
