Joan Pinder Nursing Home is located at 26 Gibson Street, Bendigo and is part of Bendigo Health. The home was opened in late 2004 and has 60 single bedrooms with ensuite facilities (58 permanent and two respite), with window views of the surrounding gardens. |
Twenty four rooms have private ensuites, 32 rooms have shared ensuites and four rooms can be converted to double rooms.
The home is fully compliant with all aged care accreditation standards.
A water feature at the entrance is pleasing to the eye of those entering the Nursing Home. Expansive corridors within the home lead into four houses which accommodate 15 residents. The houses have been named after gold reefs around Bendigo, Deborah, Victoria, Tyson and Carlisle Houses. Each house has a lounge room with fireplace, adjoining dining room, tea room, a private sun room setting to enjoy garden views and a central internal garden with access for residents and families.
Staff are highly skilled at caring for the aged. Care is provided 24 hours a day, seven days per week by registered, division 1 & 2 nurses. Staff are responsible for the delivery of food, washing of personal clothing and keeping the environment exceptionally clean making it a pleasant place to live and work.
Residents are actively involved in decision-making and have been instrumental in initiating many quality improvement activities. Joan Pinder Nursing Home has lifestyle workers, and a wonderful team of volunteers. A calendar of activities, outings and special events planned each month. The activity programs are designed to be therapeutic and provide the opportunity for stimulation and meaningful social interaction whilst promoting expression of the resident's individuality and independence. Input and participation by family members in the activity program is welcome and appreciated.
Residents are encouraged to discuss on-going medical care with their current doctor to ensure they will continue to be supported on admission to the home. A doctor is required to visit at admission, then on a regular basis to review medication charts and care needs. Staff will contact a doctor on request for urgent medical attention.
There are two community pharmacies who deliver medicines to the nursing home daily and provides an on-call service at weekends and after hours to ensure that urgently needed medicines are supplied promptly. Other pharmacies are permitted however they must be able to guarantee an on call service for weekends and public holidays. An itemised pharmacy account is included on a monthly invoice.
Service access/entry criteria:
Joan Pinder Nursing Home provides residential care to older people who require high-level care. The person must be assessed by the Aged Care Assessment Service as requiring high level residential care and must have a current Aged Care Client Record.
Referrals:
Once the person has been approved by Aged Care Assessment Service as requiring high-level residential care the person and/or their family can nominate Joan Pinder Nursing Home as one of their preferences.
Fees:
Most residents will pay a combination of several fees and charges. Fees are calculated and regulated by the government. As part of the application process, financial asset information is obtained so calculation can be made to ascertain what charges and fees apply.
