Portfolios

 

To ensure service development, our department works on a variety of portfolio projects such as:

 

CLINICAL STANDARDS PORTFOLIO

  • To develop and update speech pathology policies, procedures and guidelines
  • To identify projects required relating to speech pathology clinical standards
  • To work within an evidence based practice framework.
  • To liaise with the Quality @ Bendigo Health unit regarding clinical standards, policies and Bendigo Health standards.

MARKETING & ADVOCACY PORTFOLIO

  • To promote community awareness of the role and functions of the speech pathologist through active participation in Speech Pathology Week on an annual basis
  • To promote earlier referrals in the emergency department through quarterly/biannual inservices
  • To promote referrals to the Victorian Ambulatory Classification System (VACS) Swallowing Disorders Clinic by providing service information to potential referral sources (eg. general practioners, regional service providers, departments within Bendigo Health).
  • To promote increased referrals in the community setting regarding services within John Lindell Rehabilitation Unit (JLRU), Home Assessment and Rehabilitation Team (HART), Victorian Ambulatory Classification System (VACS), Rural Health Team  (eg. by advertising in general practitioner newsletter)
  • To continue to promote the activities and services offered for paediatrics (children) at Bendigo Health.
  • To promote speech pathology as a career for rural students.
  • To educate acute nursing and/or medical staff regarding dysphagia management in order to increase understanding of and compliance with speech pathology recommendations. 

RESEARCH/OUTCOME MEASURES PORTFOLIO

  • To monitor and assist speech pathologists at Bendigo Health with use of Australian Therapy Outcome Measures (AusTOMS).
  • To develop and foster links with university speech pathology research coordinators. 
  • To develop basic research "how to" guidelines
  • To support speech pathologists at Bendigo Health when conducting research
  • To collate a list of sources to disseminate research information i.e. journals and conferences.

STUDENT PORTFOLIO

  • To consider annual student placement requests
  • To liaise with the relevant universities regarding student placements
  • To monitor staff education needs with respect to student supervision
  • To identify projects suitable for student supervision
  • To maintain orientation and placement programs
